OUR PARTNERS
Athens Public Transit would not be possible without the support and cooperation of a diverse team of organizational partners. Each has a key role in helping our system perform to its fullest potential.
HAPCAP
As a designated grantee, HAPCAP manages and operates the system and coordinates interactions between partners, handling duties that include policy-making, state and federal compliance, contracts, system planning, grant writing and administration, and communications and marketing.
The City Of Athens
The City of Athens is involved in system planning and certain day-to-day system functions, including providing transit facilities and administering fares and passes. In addition to these services, the City contributes matching funds for State and Federal grant money from its budget.
ODOT - Office of Transit
The Ohio Department of Transportation Office of Transit is charged with administering FTA and State transit funds through its Urban and Rural Transit programs, and with statewide planning and regulatory oversight.
Federal Transit Administration
Funded by congressional surface transportation bills, the FTA provides up to 50% operations and 80% capital funding for transit programs and various discretionary and planning grants. As a division of the USDOT, it is actively engaged in rule-making for transit.
Thank You to Our Drivers!
Athens Public Transit drivers are a highly trained and dedicated group. From vehicle inspections at 6:30 am to the final cleaning routine when they get back to the garage at the end of a long day, these are the people who keep our system running. Drivers begin their training by studying to pass the commercial driver’s license tests. They also complete training modules, including defensive driving, passenger assistance and sensitivity, first aid, biohazard handling, emergency procedures, and wheelchair securement and lift operation. Several of our drivers have been steering buses around the city since the early days of transit in Athens. In addition to the drivers, Athens Public Transit staff includes a coordinator, manager, dispatcher, and mechanic.
