Our offices will close at 3:00PM on Monday December 30, and will remain closed on Tuesday December 31 & Wednesday January 1 in observance of the New Year. We will open at normal time Thursday January 2.

Bus Fares & Passes

To use the bus, passengers can purchase bus fares or picture passes! We have several options available for you to meet your needs.

“What do I get with each fare and pass?”

  • Fares
    • One-way pass: Standard one-time fare
    • Day Pass: All-you-can-ride fare for the day.
    • 30 Ride Pass: $5 discount from standard fare. Punch card.
  • Picture passes:
    • 60 Day: All you can ride for 60 days
    • 120 Day:  All you can ride for 120 days
    • Annual: All you can ride for a year.

“How Do I Purchase Bus Fares or Picture Passes?”

Fares may be purchased on the bus.
Please note: Drivers do not carry change, so please have the exact fare or payment ready.

Picture passes are sold at the Athens Mayor’s Office in City Hall. 

Address: 8 E Washington St., Athens, OH (across from the Parking Garage).
Open: Monday – Friday from 8 am to 4 pm.

When purchasing a pass, please bring cash or check and a photo ID to the Utilities Billing Window. Checks may be made out to the “City of Athens.”

Fare Discount Eligibility

APT offers 50% discounts on fares and bus passes for customers aged 65+ and customers with disabilities (they may bring one personal care attendant with them on their trip free of charge).

APT has discount unlimited-ride youth passes available for children ages 11 to 17. Children 10 and under ride free and must be accompanied by an adult.

You can receive printed forms from our bus drivers, at our garage at 397 West State Street, the Mayor’s Office, or by mail.

Please include a photo and documentation verifying your age and, if you are applying on the basis of disability, have a healthcare professional complete and sign the bottom half of the form. Advocates may assist with form completion.

Bring your completed application to the Athens Mayor’s Office.

Ask for the Court and Washington stop if you are traveling by bus.

Options available at the Mayor’s Office:

  • Blue ID – for the 50% fare discount
  • Unlimited-ride E&D picture pass

The next time you ride the bus, show your blue ID or pass to the driver to receive the discount.

NOTE: APT has adopted the definition of “disability” contained in the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Final Rule, 49 CFR Part 37, Subpart A, Section 37.3. This broad definition, drawn from the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), covers both temporary and permanent, physical and mental impairments that limit one or more major life activities.

Please note: Youth Passes require verification of eligibility.
