Center Based

Through our Center-Based program, children in Laurelville, Corning, New Lexington, Nelsonville, and Athens attend classes for 5 days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 2:55 p.m. Children in Logan attend part-day classes from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

  • Our class size is 18 children to 2 teachers in full-day programming and 17 children to 2 teachers in part-day programming.
  • All of our centers are staffed with highly qualified, degreed teachers
  • All of our centers are rated 5 stars, which is the highest rating possible through Step Up To Quality
  • We operate a fleet of 17 Head Start school buses which provide transportation to and from the centers and on field trips.

Health Assessments

Your child will receive speech, hearing, language, and vision screenings at the center and we will help with arrangements to get appointments for dental and physical exams. Follow up treatment is offered for an identified medical or dental need your child may have.

Currently we have six Head Start centers throughout Southeast Ohio:

  • Athens
  • Corning
  • Laurelville
  • Logan

All of the food provided to the children meets 1/3 of the child's daily nutritional needs. These hot, fresh, nutritious meals and snacks are prepared in HAPCAP’s Regional Kitchen every day and delivered to the Head Start centers daily. Lunches in Laurelville are prepared by Laurelville Elementary School. Full-day sessions provide breakfast, lunch, and a snack. Logan's a.m. session provides breakfast and lunch, and Logan's p.m. session provides lunch and a snack.

Breakfast, lunch and snack time are a happy time of eating and conversation with other children and adults. Children learn independence by passing bowls of food around the table and serving themselves.
