Partnering for Impact: Working together to end hunger across Southeast Ohio

Last year, the SE Ohio Foodbank supplied more than 4.7 million pounds of groceries to our network of more than 60 food pantries. Because the majority of neighbors receiving food assistance get help from their local food pantry, SEOFB works hard to procure and deliver the nutritious food they need to keep their shelves full and help families facing hunger.

In Washington County, the Greater Marietta Community Food Pantry (GMCFP) has been dutifully serving neighbors facing hunger for more than 45 years. GMCFP not only provides essential food assistance but also shares SEOFBs network of resources, further strengthening its community resilience.

Every week, pantry volunteers greet visitors with open hearts and provide them with boxes full of nutritious, carefully selected items. Items SEOFB supplies to the pantry include fresh produce, dairy, shelf-stable items, and more, helping to ensure a consistent variety of foods for the community. Additionally, the Foodbank offers training opportunities and resources to strengthen the pantry’s ability to serve neighbors facing hunger effectively.

Led by Director Sherry Hill, GMCFP also stands out for its commitment to growth and innovation. When asked what inspires her, Sherry’s answer is simple yet profound: “I believe we’re doing God’s work. There are so many people suffering, whether physically or mentally. If we can alleviate people’s suffering, we should. No one should go hungry in this country.” Her dedication is echoed by Board President Orvie Fischer and the hardworking volunteers who share her vision. “I love what I do and deeply appreciate my volunteers,” Sherry says. “It really is a pantry family.”

SEOFB is grateful for our partnership with pantries like GMCFP and grateful to our supporters, like you, who make this work possible. Through compassion, collaboration, and a shared mission to fight hunger we are creating healthier, more hopeful communities across Southeast Ohio.
