Growing Community Doulas.
Strengthening Appalachian Communities.
Families in Appalachian communities often face barriers to accessing maternity care, support services, and health resources. Community doulas help bridge those gaps by providing emotional support, evidence-based information, advocacy, and connection to local resources throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.
The Appalachian Community Doula Training Program was developed to expand access to these services while creating sustainable workforce opportunities within our region. This program prepares local community members to provide compassionate, evidence-informed support to families throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum while strengthening the maternal health workforce across Southeast Ohio and Appalachia.
Birth is community work. Through community-centered education, mentorship, and hands-on experience, we are building a network of doulas dedicated to improving maternal and infant health outcomes across Appalachian communities.
