Ohioans who are at or below 80% of their county’s Area Median Income (AMI) and have fallen behind on rent, utility, or mortgage payments are encouraged to contact HAPCAP to submit an application for assistance. Funds are available for a limited time and applicants are encouraged to reach out early.
Those eligible for mortgage assistance can have their past due payments paid back to April 1, 2020, but assistance cannot exceed 3 consecutive months.
Home Owner Applicants for the mortgage assistance or utility program must provide:
- Proof of citizenship for everyone in household (social security card, birth certificate, passport, voter’s registration)
- Proof of income for the last 30 days for everyone over 18 (examples: pay stubs, SSA/SSI/SSDI, Self-employment, TANF, Unemployment, Utility Allowance, Retirement)
Additional required documents for mortgage assistance include:
- Most recent mortgage statement
If you are a homeowner applying for utility assistance (electric, water, natural gas, wood), you must provide a copy of your most recent utility bill. You must utilize the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) first if eligible.
