COAD, The Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Ohio Development, needs YOUR help with a special program for our children—
The Foster Grandparent program is helping children in 12 counties in Southeast Ohio.
In Head Start centers, pre-schools and elementary schools all over our area, low-income seniors are getting out of the house and helping children!
The seniors work with 3 to 5 children in a classroom, under the teacher’s guidance. The “grandma” or “grandpa” helps with learning life skills, colors, numbers and reading.
It’s a special opportunity, and low-income seniors who are 60 and over receive a small, non-taxable stipend, help with mileage, and a free lunch. They also enjoy the company of the other foster grandparents, when they meet monthly to share ideas.
